Every nation has legends about mysterious places that heal illness and sorrow. For centuries Christian and pagan beliefs have crossed paths in Bulgaria, and Strandzha keeps many such sacred places and springs.
One of them is the mystical Indipasha, a rock sanctuary and presumably an ancient Thracian shrine. Locals consider it one of the holiest places in Strandzha. They believe its water is sacred and healing, and that a visit brings recovery, spiritual cleansing and makes wishes come true.
Indipasha is a holy spring with healing water gushing from under an overhanging rock. People seeking healing come here all year round.
Besides the shrine you will see many strips of cloth and clothes tied to the nearby trees in hope of luck and healing. By an old pagan custom, just as the cloth hangs in the void between sky and earth, its owner leaves his sorrow and illness there.
In the past only the initiated knew the way to the shrine, finding it by the solar circles carved into the rocks. “Living” water flowed in the sanctuary: the sick stood up, the lame walked and the blind could see again.
Love and be loved.
